A branch that deals with the fundamentals of engineering, Mechanical Engineering has always been the first preferred one for the students. KSIT is among the very few new engineering colleges that have extensively invested in infrastructure to study this stream of engineering.

The department has:

· Foundry and Forging Lab
· Fluid Mechanics & Fluid Machinery Lab.

The facilities in the Metrology & Instrumentation Lab are truly of industry standard. The department has a state of the art

· Energy Lab
· Heat Transfer Lab
· Design Lab & a full scale Machine Shop.

The students get to work on all the equipment and machinery under the watchful eyes of the teaching and supporting staff in the department and get a thorough grounding.

The Mechanical Engineering Department has well qualified staff with Post Graduate and Doctoral Degree specialists in Design Engg., Production Engg., Thermal Engg., Management Engg,. etc.

The department has tie-up with reputed companies such as Microgenesis, CAD Soft Pvt. Ltd., Polymer India, Applied Surface Technologies, etc., for conducting special training programmes for students of 6th, 7th and 8th Semesters in the thrust areas of CAD, CAM, CAE, etc.
